Requiebros

I was just asked to play cello in a concert that is a benefit for a church in Bridgeton. The program has a Spanish (or Hispanic) theme, and I recalled an encore piece that I studied with my teacher, Joseph Druian. I pulled out the music for Requiebros by Gaspar Cassado (there should be an accent over the o but I can't do that). And then I went to YouTube to listen to a few performances. Many were flat and lacked "duende" (look up Federico Garcia Lorca if you are unfamiliar with the term). And there I found the recording by the composer himself, which I own on disk. Listen to it. But I also found a performance by Asier Polo, certainly personalized, yet overflowing with duende. Enjoy!
